NW loses in the finals to GP

Potchefstroom - The North West Wheelchair Basketball team wona silver medal in the fiercely contested final of the Vodacom Wheelchair Basketball South African National Championships Challenge 2015, after losing 60 - 54 to Gauteng at North West University, Potchefstroom Campus on Saturday, 26 September 2015.
Unfortunately the North West team who are the two times champion of the Vodacom Wheelchair Basketball South Africa National Championships could not defend their title, as Gauteng Province proved to be a strong opponent.
The Eastern Cape Province obtained the third position and was awarded a bronze medal, while Kwa-Zulu obtained the fourth position, the Zimbabwean team obtained position five and the Western Cape Province obtained the sixth position which was the last position.
Lucas Sithole, International Wheelchair Tennis Champion, who is playing for Gauteng was excited about their achievement. He said teamwork has paid off for his team. He is happy to be part of the team that won the Nationals.
ShatimoMoepeng, North West team coach, expressed his disappointment of losing in the final stage of the tournament. He said his team was only focused on a few players while forgetting to stop the most dangerous players. He closed by saying that, future was very bright for his team because they play as a team and they do not depend on individuals.
MaphefoMatsemela, North West Education and Sport Development MEC, congratulated the winners and expressed that they are proud of the NW team achievements in the tournament.
The top four teams namely Gauteng Province, North West, Eastern Cape and Kwa-Zulu Natal are going to play for a R1 00 000 prize sponsored by Vodacom at Voda-World in Midrand on 13 and 14November 2015.
The Education and Sport Development department has been behind the North West team by sponsoring them with accommodation, meals, sports attire and transport during all tournaments.
