Constable and two accomplices in court
16 July 2015
Hartebeesfontein – A police constable from Hartebeesfontein police station and two accomplices appeared before the Delareyville Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, 14 July 2015, on charges of the illegal possession of ammunition and the possession of dangerous weapons.
Capt. Paul Ramaloko, police spokesperson, said Const. Patrick Tsonda (37), Tshepo Manyobe(25) and Sephelo Mlambo (25) were arrested on Monday, 13 July 2015, by Delareyville police after the police had received information of a planned robbery.
The suspects were intercepted while removing the number plates on Manyobe’s Nissan Maxima. The police found knives in both Manyobe’s and Mlabo’s pockets. Tsonda had his police issued firearm with six rounds of ammunition which had not been issued by the police. He could not explain where he got the ammunition nor why it were in the police firearm.
Tsonda was charged with illegal possession of ammunition and his accomplices were charged for possession of dangerous weapons. Manyobe and Mlambo were released after paying an admission of guilt of R200 each, while Tsonda was released on warning and instructed to appear in court again on 22 September 2015.
Internal disciplinary steps are underway against Tsonda.
